Message of the Governor of the Department of La Paz Mateo Laura Canqui
for the celebration of the Bolivian Independence Day on the 6th of August

The country…I knew it since the day I
was born, since my quarters, since my community, since my absence in the
streets to go to the school when was a boy, my country was the lack of
all; the light, the work, the worthy conditions of life. Now, that I am a part of the country, of
the history of my country, now that I am the first authority of the
department of La Paz, now that I am the first native Prefect of the
republican history of Bolivia, I want our country, that today fulfils
the 178 years of its existence, TO BE A COUNTRY FOR ALL.
A worthy country, a sovereign country, a
large, strong and beautiful country...
A country that has pride for all its
children, as it has pride for me, that I am the Prefect, but, above all,
I am Bolivian.

patria…yo la conocí desde mi cuna, desde Pacajes, desde el cuartel,
desde mi comunidad, desde mi ausencia de caminos para ir a la escuela
cuando era niño; mi patria era la falta de todo: de luz, de trabajo, de
condiciones dignas de vida. Ahora, que
soy una parte de la patria, de la historia de mi patria, ahora que soy
la primera autoridad del departamento de La Paz, ahora que soy el primer
Prefecto indígena de la historia republicana de Bolivia, quiero que
nuestra patria, que hoy cumple 178 años de existencia, SEA UNA PATRIA
PARA TODOS. UNA PATRIA
DIGNA. UNA PATRIA
SOBERANA. UNA PATRIA
FUERTE, GRANDE, LINDA. Una patria
que sea orgullo para todos sus hijos, como es un orgullo para mi, que
soy el Prefecto, pero, ante todo, soy boliviano. ¡Viva el
6 de agosto! ¡Viva
Bolivia! ¡Viva la
