Huascar

(? – 1532)

An Inca prince

Huascar was the second son of the 11th Inca Emperor Huayna  Capac, therefore he was an Inca prince who was born in Cuzco (the date of his birth is uknown). When Huayna Capac died in 1525, his kingdom splited into two and given to his two sons. Huascar, the oldest son, inherited half of the empire and particularly the southern Cuzco area while at the same time Atahualpa, the other son of Huayna Capac and the younger half-brother of Huascar, inherited the northern part around Quito.

Soon the two brothers began to quarrel for the supremacy of the empire and a battle took place near the mount Chimborazo in 1532. The results of this battle was Huascar to be defeated, captured and drowned by Atahualpa who was scared that he might be reinstated. After that Atahualpa became the 12th and the last Inca king of Peru.
